W Club Wins First Prize 1 For Parade Float Pioneer Day in Duchesne was observed by a free celebration sponsored by the Daughters of Utah Pioneers The day began with a a. parade down Main fain street led by the Duchesne Du Du- chesne high school band followed by gaily decorated floats representing representing representing different organizations I and a handcart depicting the crossing of the plains by the Mormon Mormon Mormon Mor Mor- mon pioneers The Business and professional Women's club won first prize with their float on which Miss Utah represented by Miss Viola Wardle rode surrounded by her attendants Lorraine and Ann Rae Wilkins LaJean La La- Jean Cowan and Sanny Fisher I Daughters of Pioneers were awarded second prize A group of the members were dressed in old fashioned dresses and the float was decorated with baskets of fresh garden flowers Vear Weary Travelers Honorable mention went to the hand cart company who looked as asif asif asif if they had come the whole distance distance distance dis dis- tance from Illinois to the Uintah B Basin sin so dusty and tr travel vel stained were they with their mulch cow plodding wearily beside them Other floats so representative of pioneer life and appropriate to the progress of time made the task of the judges a hard one The Relief Society's float depicted one of their typical gatherings with the women grouped around work- work Continued on Page 8 |
