Show THINGS TO BE THANKFUL FOR While we ve are still aglow with the spirit of Thanksgiving for we think the Basin did have much to be thankful for this year it might be bevell well vell to give a little thought to those things for which we ve would like to be thankful From the first Thanksgiving feast held by the Pilgrims to the present day dayve we ve have paused once each year to offer thanks to God for the blessings we ve have nave Each year as we recount these blessings it can be noted that those who vho have planned the best and worked the hardest al are e prominent among those who vho have the most for which to be thankful So that we ve may have real rejoicing a year from now v let us take stock then of how we should plan and to what ends we ve should work We would like to be thankful for Blue Bench No g greater cause for rejoicing could be imagined in in Duchesne county than the actual start of a reclamation reclamation reclamation tion and resettlement project for Blue Bench It is possible if we ve will devote the proper planning and energy to it We would like to be thankful for bet better r high high- ways U. U S. S 40 will vill be completed except for a few v short stretches which are temporarily oiled and the state is is now v at work on one of our our necessary secondary secondary dary roads Constant work vork can add other roads to this program We would like to be thankful for fora a good hospital in in Duchesne county Work has now started on the new hospital in Roosevelt Constant pushing public assistance and cooperation will vill insure it completion We would like to be thankful for continued peace With war var threats becoming constantly more numerous numerous numerous numer numer- ous and more threatening it will vill take careful diplomacy diplomacy diplomacy diplo diplo- macy on the part of our statesmen and constant pre pressure sure for peace on the part of the public to keep the United States out of war Let us be thankful for peace a year hence t We would like to be thankful for better friendship friendship friendship friend friend- ship and closer unity throughout the county This is is up to us as indi individuals duals and groups entirely and not to be looked for from some outside agency If we ve would advance as we should i if f we would enjoy to the utmost the many fine opportunities the Uintah Basin presents resents if we would realize the above hopes we ve must first overcome and the forget petty jealousies so rampant rampant ram lam pant in in the county and start pulling together for the things we need and desire f All these along with the man many smaller local desires de de- sires can really be accomplished within the next year if we will only plan Alan and nd work hard enough for them We W have just given thanks for the bless blessings blessing s we have enjoyed in the past Aast Let u us s start working today to toward toward to- to ward the greatest Thanksgiving we have ever known kno for 1939 KEEP YOUR DOLLARS AT HOME The season of greatest spending is is at hand the hand the season during which the residents of any an community have the most to say about its successful progression For the dollars spent in in a community for whatever commodity are the direct en of its continued success or progress During the next five fire weeks then the citizens of Duchesne County have in their hands the power ver tomake to tomake tomake make of the county a better and more prosperous community or to retard still further its its' return from the economic struggle by the simple decision to spend their money in the county or to send it elsewhere A large portion of every dollar we ve spend whether it be for farm repairs or improvements added comforts comforts com corn forts for the home personal necessities a new v car or orthe orthe orthe the long list of Christmas gifts is goes to the cost of distribution of that production This money goes to taxes help power transportation costs and the many other overhead items which are connected with running running running run run- ning a business wherever it is situated and always comes out of every dollar we spend The control the spender has over this portion of the dollar he spends is deciding where it its shall all go If he spends his dollar at home it goes to the taxes of his own county it goes to local help local power companies companies com com- comp p ones who vho in turn pay county taxes etc and to people who vho will vill in turn spend part of the money with the original spender If on the other hand he sends it out of the county it is gone every cent of it to pay taxes in in some other county and state and to help some other corn corn- community to progress while his local community community com com- stays stagnant Business dollars are the lifeblood of any community community com com- community and any individual can progress only as his community progresses Build up your own o community ty by spending your dollars at home |
