J Workman of Vernal who is 86 years of age On his mothers mother's side he has but butone butone butone one one grandmother living Mrs Caroline Caroline Car Car- oline oUne Peterson of Provo Both of his great grand mothers are enjoying excellent health and are very active fictive Mrs Workman was born January 12 1849 at St. St Joseph Mo the daughter of Jess Walker and Betsy Ann Snyder Johnston Her father was a member of the famous com company pan C of the Mormon battalion under Captain James Brown she crossed the plains to Utah In 1849 settling in Salt Lake City When but 16 years of age she was married to Jacob Reader Workman her lr senior by 12 years Mr Worker an was one of the Mormon Monnon group which settled settled settled set set- Vernal Utah and it was he who vho raised the first American flag over that town then used as asa asa a fort in the early days This flag was made by Mrs Workman I Before moving to Vernal Mrs i Workman lived at Snyderville erville I She has served for 25 years as a I teacher in the Vernal Relief Society Society Society So So- and is a member of the Utah State society of Daughters of the Mormon Battalion Mrs was bOIl boyn December December December Decem Decem- ber 10 1852 at Ogden the daughter daugh daugh- ter of Charles Root and Harriet E.
