Club held recently the water committee appointed at that time has drawn up and sent the following letter of protest to State officials J August 1934 1931 Hon Henry H H. H Humpherys s 's State Engineer State of Utah Salt Lake City Utah Dear Sir We the citizens of Duchesne Duchesne County in meeting assembled assembled assembled as as- hereby vigorously protest the contemplated and much advertised advertised advertised ad ad- proposal of the water users of Salt Lake City and Utah Counties to supplement the available available available avail avail- able water supply of their respective respective respective tive sections by appropriating the waters of the Upper Duchesne and its tributaries and also the floodwaters flood floodwaters I waters of Current Creek We have the largest section of I land in the State The only available land which can be I watered to advantage and we contend contend con con- con I tend that all ll water originating on the east side of the water shed hed rightfully should be be used for the development of this country and that the diversion of the same toe to the he e water users of the western slope would work an irreparable injury upon the citizens of this section for all time to come It was the understanding of the people of this territory at the time the Strawberry Reservoir was waa constructed that the appropriation tion covered the flood waters of the Strawberry River and that the normal flow of said river should not be with Since 1914 all of the water originating originating origin origin- above the dam has been impounded impounded impounded im im- im- im pounded for the benefit of the water wat wat- er users of Utah Valley and has been lost for all time to the people of Uintah b Basin We feel that if Salt Lake City and Utah Valley water users are permitted to appropriate appropriate appropriate ap ap- ap- ap water from the Upper Duchesne and Currant Creek that history will repeat itself We do donot donot donot not propose to supinely permit such a move without entering a vigorous protest Respectfully Submitted DUCHESNE GATEWAY GATE CLUB By E.
