Show I OTHERS VIEWS SLUMBERING SAMUEL ASKS IZZAT TRUE TRUEl Duchesne Utah July 12 1932 Dear Ed I cannot help but ponder on the stress that is applied In opposing Socialism in recent Issues of ot The Record and while I am not a wool the Red I cannot help but think that where there is so much smoke there must be some fire and it also seems to me that that- Mr Hollenbeck is doing his best to hide the smoke From my observations I cannot see where the Democrats can blame the Republicans nor where the Republicans can rightfully blame the Democrats for the existing existing existing ex ex- ex- ex conditions conditions and and will Mr Hollenbeck please tell us on what pretext we may blame The Socialists Soci Soci- Socialists to whom he seems to wish I us to place glace the blame so that we will not be so foolish as to vote that ticket this coming election in November How the Judge can separate labor and mentality is another puzzle to common sense unless he means that only machines work and that w we are living in an age when human beings do no work of any nature other than mental labor perhaps labor perhaps that Is the thought he is trying to put over as various various various vari vari- ous press reports seem to bear out the truth that everything Is unemployed except a few ma ma- chines I It also occurs to me that I have heard Socialists make the claim that Society creates values on real estate etc so to my way of thinking that undermines Mr Hollenbeck's theory of Mental Valuations Then too his story of a patented machine taking the place of workers and being a product product product pro pro- duct of mentality he forgot to explain who should reap the product product pro pro- duct profits of that machine machIne- the inventor mentality or the owner Of course he denied the worker any right to participate Inthe Inthe in inthe the product profits of the invention invention invention in in- because of their lack of mentality which as you understand understand understand under under- stand It being a complicated machine machine machine ma ma- chine because of ot its mentality it was not necessary for them to even work so hard and naturally they didn't t have to use as much mentality in its operation as they did in the old hand process which as I understand it required no mentality whatever or nearly so judging from their share of ot the product profits I take it that we must be very careful not to let the Socialists get in power in this country as that would be awful to starve to death under Socialism but that It ItIs Itis itis Is much nicer to starve to death under the rule of ether either of the old parties as they seem to be able to make the process a long drawn- drawn out affair As near as I can figure figure fig tig- ure it that seems to be the main reason advanced as to why one should not vote for tor Socialism this I year I i 1 nave have read somewhere In history his his- tory about a man named Lincoln I who It Is claimed freed the slaves slaves I and who allegedly said that the Nation would not and could not have gone on half free and half halt sla slave ve Vell Well as near as I can figure fig tig- ure that out is s just this this this-No No man has to work he can starve And a revised idea dea of f that statement would read N uNo No you cant can't work work- You shall starve whether you want to work or not And as a Parting thought I would like to remind Mr Hollenbeck that the Slave Owners did not turn the Slaves out at the end of ot the workIng workIng work work- ing season to forage for tor themselves them them- selves selves selves-or or starve they kept them well and healthy as that was necessary necessary necessary essary in order that the Slaves might be able to work at the proper prop prop- er tine tinie But of course in case too many American workmen should starve while out foraging for tor themselves we can easily import import im irn port a like number of Mexican peons to take their place I thank you SLUMBERING SAMUEL |
