Show iQIVE VOTERS THE FACTS, j Analysis of Vote In the City In 1903, When Morris Was Elected, Shows V the Republican Candidate to Be the Stronger One Now. I Two years ago In 1903 when the Republicans or this city saw that their convention had been overslaughed over-slaughed by Kearns' political debauchery, de-bauchery, they felt that they really had no Republican general city ticket In the field, and elected Mayor Morris; this, too, at a time when the Democrats Demo-crats had no hopo of winning, and would not havo carried a single municipal muni-cipal "ward In the city if it had not been for the uprising in the Republican Republi-can ranks. It is contended by some that the figures of that election show Mr. Morris to bo the stronger candl- 11st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th Tot In Ward Ward Ward Ward Ward City. These results were produced by such men as W. F. James, Judge Zane, Judge Miner, Rev. Richard Wake, O. J. Salisbury, Rev. Peter Slmpkin, M. H. Walker and other prominent promi-nent Republican Gentiles in the City, vigorously engaged in try-' try-' ing to defeat the Republican nominee for Mayor. Indeed, if, with the Republl-fj Republl-fj can support of tholr candidate for M Mayor in 1903 not because of any IJ popularity he might claim for himself, H but because of the disaffection among H the Republicans If the Democrats In j such a case could rpll up only 574 ma-1 ma-1 jorlty In two municipal wards for their i Counciimanic ticket, wh,lle a majority H ? H57 for the Republican Councilmen jM was piled up In the other three munl-cipal munl-cipal wards, then the Democratic m claim to bejng the stronger party now g is' grotesque in Its absurdity. C Truth gives the foregoing tables date now. Truth had analyzed those figures carefully before its utterance last week, and found that they prove beyond the shadow or doubt that, with a real Republican ticket In the field, as now, such ticket Is by long odds the strongest before the people, and Is the ticket with which to beat the Kearns aggregation at this time. Hero are two tables that show the facts, the first being the vote for Morris Mor-ris and Knox, and the second, which Is necessary to a complete understanding under-standing of the situation in 1903, being the result on the Council ticket: produced again, since nearly all the producers thereof are now working shoulder to shoulder for tho Republican Republi-can ticket. But even with the disaffection disaf-fection over tho Mayor in the Counciimanic fight tho Republicans carried the city by 883 votes over the Democrats. Hero are tho Republican and Democratic majorities, respectively, respec-tively, by municipal wards: that tho voters may have all the facts before them, and not bo misled by a Juggling of figures on tho head or the ticket two years ago, which are no more a basis for accurate judgment on tho result now than would bo the vote on the head of tho ticket one year ago, when President Roosevelt beat Mr. Parker, tho Democratic candidate, can-didate, by a majority of 9425 votes in the city. Truth believes that the most desirable de-sirable end to bo attained in this election Is to defeat Tom Kearns' tools, who comprise tho so-called "American" ticket, and by doing so to save the city from debauchery and financial disaster. We are with the people in any sensibly policy to achieve that result, and know that tho straight tip on that policy is to vote tho Republican city ticket. Truth repeats what it said last week, that any sane person can readily see that tho contest for Mayor Is between Lynch and Thompson, with the chances In favor of Lynch. Thoso fa-vorablo fa-vorablo chances for Lynch havo increased in-creased greatly tho past few days; and reputable citizens, irrespective of creed cr party, aro awakening to the patent fact that tho best and only way to perform their whole duty in this election is to beat Thompson with Lynch. Truth has always glvon tho people straight, honest facts, irrespective of tho men or tho party it might hit, and It does so now. |
