Show o POLITICAL GOSSIP. Tho movement Is being renewed t-induce t-induce P. H. Lannan to accept the nomination for mayor on tho Ropubll can ticket. Mr. Lannan's namo was mentioned In this connection some months ago, but then ho was averse tc considering It, but tho matter has beei renewed again, and Mr. Lannan has been spoken to on tho subject. It ma bo said that ho is not by nny meant hot after it, but his friends say he can be persuaded to take tho nomination. Mr. Lannan would rmako an excellent mayor. There arc thoso however, who fear that ho wouldn't bo a very good voto puller from tho Mormon sldo of tho house, on account of old bitter nesses, which may yet remain as echoes of the past. Tho Mormon peo pie, however, have shown that they were very forgiving, and have stucli closo to their political parties and elected men to ofllco who years before had been their bitterest opponents. An inlluontial section of tho Republican Repub-lican party is urging M. H. Walker for tho mayoralty nomination. Mr. Walker would be a strong candidate. Ho has not taken nn active part in politics for many years, and consequently conse-quently has no political cliques nr rayed against him. Ho has the conll donco of all classes of tho community and altogether would be a very desir able candidate. |
