AVodnesdny during chapel hour nt a student body meeting thero was " groat demonstration of college spirit Tho purpose of tho meeting was to present tho boys who had won honors on tho football team last fall with i sweaters upon which was tho black U. Before tho meeting wns called to order different classes began enthusiastic enthu-siastic college yells, and during tho entire meeting, which lasted ono hour and a half, at frequent Intervals crls-cross crls-cross yells filled tho room. The engineers en-gineers occupied tho south corner, the arts tho northeast corner and the fourth-year normals tho southeast corner. cor-ner. Tho songs of the normals woro a new feature and were appropriate and well rendered. Tho enthusiasm and yells from these classes made the meeting tho banner ono of tho year for collego sport. A cornet solo, accompanied by Prof. Coop, was rendered by Mr. Christen-sen Christen-sen of tho Christensen orchestra. After Aft-er this Mr. Callahan, who is a member of tho athletic council, gave a very enthusiastic speech In which he praised the football men for their prowess and spoke of the different victories won last fall by them. He said ho bellved that the U. of U. team equals any team in tho middlo-wesi and wished the men success and tho team the loyal support of every student. stu-dent. Mr. Maddock presented the following follow-ing nnme'd boys with tho sweaters with tho black U: Jlmmio Wade. Henry Peterson, J. P. Russell, M. W Anderson, Dale Pitt, Oscar W. Carlson, Carl-son, George M. Brown, Fred Benn'on Fred Scranton, M. H. Forbes, Mr. Barton, Mr. Hope, Mr. Robins nnd Fleshman. For honors won last year Earl Bennlon was given a U sweater. Tho following named students received sweaters without tho U: P. G. Settlo, A. W. Farnsworth nnd Thomas Var-ley. Var-ley. Before presenting the sweaters Mr Maddock said that tho toys had the right fighting spirit and that this spirl won the contests. He thon explalne" how tho U must bo won. For a fooc-ball fooc-ball man to win a U he must have played two full halves in a championship champion-ship gnmo. Professor Cummings announced that Saturday evening tho Authors' club would give a ball at the university for tho benefit of tho gymnasium. Th Authors' club a few weeks ago gave a musical for this same purpose an netted about $100. Professor Cummings also spoke of what should bo done on Arbor day Ho stated that Professor Wilson, Mr Maddock and himself hart been appointed ap-pointed on a committee for the Improvement Im-provement of the grounds. Ho desired de-sired tho students to come at 8 a. ra. on that day with spado and pick todi' tronches nnd to lay plpc3 that the athletic field might bo sprinkled.
