Show One point that the Tribune con I stantly comments upon is that the sen li timent against tho seating of Ssnato It Smoot is generally strong throughout II the United States. This is, in a de- I gree, true, but that such sentiment is li founded upon any knowledge of the H real facts Is not true in substance o.. H effect. And why? Simply because nearly B every lino that has been published In H tho effort to arouse this public senti- I ment has been either maliciously faise I or wilfully perverted. No one knows I this any better than tho men who, un- der tho direction of tho Kearns' editors "cook up" tho stuff that Is sent to I eastern papers. Tho motto of these I writers is, "Make your story red-hot. I Tho people back there don't know the I truth, and they won't question what I wo send." H And so, with this purpose in view, I every wild and foolish tale that could I be revived or imagined has been scat- I tered broadcast, until tho uninformed I eastern reader has como to swallow I with gusto anything bad ho reads I about Utah. I Thus it appears that no matter what I may bo the result of tho Smoot Inves- I tlgatlon, much good will bo accom- I pushed by having a few broad-minded, I sterling men go down to Washington I and tell tho sober truth about present- I day conditions In Utah.
