Show u CHANGES OF FEDERAL OFFICE-HOLDERS. OFFICE-HOLDERS. Any day may come tho news from Washington that United States District Dis-trict Attorney "Llppman and United Stntos Marshal Ileywood havo boon removed from their olllcos and that Attornoy II. E. Booth or Attorney II. E. Edwards and William Spry havo been appointed by President Presi-dent Roosevelt to tnke their places. It Is only just and fair to Messrs. Lipp-man Lipp-man nnd Ileywood to say that tholr removal is not for neglect of duty or Inability. Both wcro fairly good offlcors, but they wero foolish enough to leavo tho Republican party, from which thoy received tholr appointments, and opon-ly, opon-ly, actively, vigorously and ofTon-slvoly ofTon-slvoly labored for Its defeat In tho presidential election last fall. Now thoy will probably poso as martyrs to tho "American" party's cause. They pledged tholr property, lives nnd sacred honor to that party. Thoro will probably bo a fow moro unwilling martyrs hoard from. Ono thing Is pretty certain; no ono who Joined that party and tried to defeat tho Republican Re-publican ticket will bo the recipient of either national or stato patronago during tho llfo of tho present administration. admin-istration. n |
