Show JUVENILE BETTERMENT LEAGUE. The world Is a good deal better than most of us suppose. Tho ovll, unfortunately, Is kept moro prominently promi-nently In view of tho public than tho good, but there aro hosts of good, earnest people about whom little Is heard engaged oil tho time In fighting tho ovll and striving to Improvo tho condition of mankind, materially and morally. It Is generally conceded that the most active, most lasting labor of thus kind is that expended upon tho young. Prevention is better than reformation. re-formation. A little insight was afforded afford-ed to what is being dono In Salt Lako In that direction a few evenings ago at tho March meeting of tho Juvenile Betterment League held in the Y. M. C. A. building, when there was a gathering gath-ering of a few altruists, thoso who give their time and their money and their thoughts for tho benefit of others. Tho Juvenllo Betterment league has many branches included in tho ono Idea of helping tho young, especially tho boys and girls who havo not tho advantages of good homo Influences, to become good men and women. In these branches are included tho Juvenllo Ju-venllo court, presided over by Judge Browne, tho Y. M. C, various orphanages orphan-ages and children's homes, the Salvation Sal-vation Army and the State Industrial school. The members of the league aro endeavoring to Increase tho usefulness use-fulness of thoso institutions and to enlist increased public interest and aid for them. At the meeting which was preceded pre-ceded by a dinner, vice president of tho league, J. A. Greonewald presided, presid-ed, and Secretary L. P. Judd made various va-rious reports, among them being an announcement that ex-Governor Wells, W. Mont Ferry and Oscar L. Cox had been appointed a supervising commlt-teo commlt-teo on tho charities, and that tho Manufacturers and Merchants association asso-ciation and tho Commercial club had expressed their willingness to co-operate in tho work.
