Show o BURLINGTON BACKS MOFFAT ROAD. From all Indications it appears that tho Burlington is backing tho construction con-struction of the Moffat road. The eastern business Journals seem to take this view of the matter, and despite denials from Denver people, wo are inclined to believe It is n fact that Hill, who now controls tho Burlington system, is trying to get on outlet through Denver to Utah and possibly on to tho southern California const. Ho already hns one to the northwest and is contemplating a lino from Du-luth Du-luth down across country to Denver. Tho Denver, Northwestern & Pacific will open up a new field. Wo aro led to believe that tho so-called so-called Moffat road will erect a station at or near the corner of Second South and First West. There is a well defined de-fined rumor in circulation to tho effect ef-fect that the Burlington has secured an entrance to tho city; to tlio central cen-tral part of tho city, by having agents purchase a majority of tho stock in tho West Side Rapid Transit Railway, which has its northern terminal at the corner of Second South and First West. It is also reported to Truth that agents of tho Burlington, or interested inter-ested parties working for tho Burlington, Burling-ton, havo secured tho real estate needed, need-ed, and while the property Is ostensibly ostensi-bly hold by private parties, In fact the railroad owns enough for a station site, and has secured options on enough ground for freight depots and for yard purposes further south. Theso reports como to us from sources that we cannot question, and while they may be denied by parties not unablo to securo the information, wo feel Justified in making tho state' ments above made. It would bo a good thing for another competing system to get Its finger In tho plo here. With tho Gould system fighting tho Harrlman combination, it would bo refreshing to havo the Hill outfit got in here, because wo believe it would mean still more competition. And competition is what this section needs. Wo havo been hold up long enough. This report seems to bo another an-other gleam of light in tho new sunrise sun-rise of Utah and Salt Lako City. Wo believe it is true; wo hope it is true. |
