Show Ij LOGAN LETTER. j Editor Truth If it is not Intrud-. 1! ing on your valuable spaco I would I,' like- to express some of my political I, obresvatlons hero in tho Templo city. 1' I am not accustomed to newspaper writing or public utterances of any v kind, neither do I belong to any par- J ticular political party, but during my stay in this beautiful city I have seen, heard and read about some very peculiar pe-culiar local political doings, and will endeavor to scrlbblo somo of them, i Politics is very quiet hero at' pres ent. Tho only public utterances I have heard aro a couple of editorial squibs In tho local mouthpiece of the 1 Democracy, which has evidently been i printed with tho Idea convoyed in tho ' !V expression, "Thoro Is a chip on my shoulder, who dares knock It off?" Tho editorials in question stated in substanco that it was questionable whether tho Democrats would put a ( ticket in tho field at tho coming city 1,M election, tho reason given being that i tho Republicans had been so extrava- jj gant that It would indeed bo a very laborious task to again drag tho city U out of tho very bad financial condl- jir tlon in which it had been placed by 111 those wicked G. O. P. people. The j Democrats, It was stated, had done that before and wore very reluctant i to again attempt to straighten out J i' those very knotty financial Republi- 1 can kinks. "j When I read tho last of these won 't derful editorials I remarked to a by- standor, "Wouldn't that rasp your U socks?" To people who are acquaint ed with tho real situation it is Indeed 1 amusing. It is in reality supremo gall. I was hero four years ago, when c after eight successive years the Dem- 1 ocrats had manlpulted tho municipal affairs of Logan, and tho Republicans stepped in and took charge. What was tho very first action that had to bo taken by that Republican mayor and council? What would you think? After eight years of Democratic economy, econ-omy, tho Republican city council had to borrow somo eight or nlno hundred hun-dred dollars at 7 per cent from a Democratic bank, to pay bills allowed by a Democratic council, and, mind you, during tho eight years no extraordinary ex-traordinary improvements had been made. It is true that tho Republicans are a little moro expensive, but thoro is something to show for It. Thoy DID something. Thoy havo accomplished accom-plished moro of substantial and very beneficial public improvements in any one year than tho Democrats did in eight years. I will glvo you tho real and truo reason why tho Democratic party of Logan is reluctant about putting a city ticket In tho Held this fall. Thoro aro four holdover Republican Repub-lican councllmen, so that party has only two to elect to havo a majority. Tho Democrats havo ono holdover and havo to elect flvo to havo a majority. ma-jority. This thoy aro well awaro is an impossibility, but of course they will not publicly acknowledge tho corn, hence they raise this very flimsy financial bugaboo. Somo Republican will get tho blamo for this article. I will state, however, if I am anything in politics I am a Socialist. And tket Logan Republicans Republi-cans are carrying out somo principles I believe In. Respectfully, MUGWUMP. Logan, Sept. 12. |
