Show LINCOLN CELEBRATION. Tho Lincoln nnniversary celebration celebra-tion held In tho Armory on Monday evening was in tho truo sense a success. suc-cess. By tho true sense wo mean that those who attended, and tho numbor was very largo, showed by their general gen-eral demeanor, under somewhat unfavorable unfa-vorable conditions, that thoy camo there becauso that, away down In their hearts they felt, real unslmu-lated unslmu-lated veneration and admiration for the man who did so much for not only America and Americans, but for the human race; that ho had tho patriotism, pa-triotism, tho truo patriotism, which moans not only lovo for ono particular corner of tho earth and Its peoplo. but lovo for all tho earth and every living thing thereon. Thero was no bun-combo bun-combo about Lincoln. To do honor to tho memory of this man, this giant among giants, tho peoplo assembled, by their demeanor, showed that free American Institutions aro dear to their hearts, that they aro truo blue patriotic patri-otic Americans and that they realize tho debt of gratitude which this nation na-tion in particular and tho world In general owes to Lincoln. There was no sound of discord from start to finish. Tho speeches were good, particularly that of Judge C. S. Zano, who gavo very interesting interest-ing personal reminiscence of Lincoln, Lin-coln, and Is ono of the few now living who had tho privilege of personal per-sonal acquaintance with tho great lib , erator. Judge Zano studied law under Mr. Lincoln and became the junior partner In tho law firm of Lincoln, Herndon & Zano. Governor Cutler, ox-Governor A. L. Thomas and ex-Gov- i ornor Hcbor M. Wells and others gavo very Interesting addresses. Tho armory was pleasingly decorated and no hotsllo attack was mado by Gonoral Geoghegan. Tho arrangement's for I. tho affair, however, wero faulty In tho extreme or It might bo moro correct to say tho absence of arrangements. Thero woro double tho numbor ot speakers on tho programmo which there ought to have been, unless the Intention was to havo a performance R on tho Chlneso plan, lasting for sov- oral dnys. Furthermore if "Honest IS Abo" was present in spirit it must a havo mado him sad to soo tho guests 1 1 mado to pay ?1 for a 10c meal which somebody was pleased to designate as y a banquet. tr |
