Show CONTACT, NEVADA HAS A FUTURE. FU-TURE. ! Mr. Andrew J. Tarbet returned a few days ago from Contact, Nevada, full of apparently jwell founded enthusiasm en-thusiasm for that camp. He says, and it is an undoubted fact, that the Southern Pacific railroad is not only surveyed, but located from Wells to Twin Falls, which means that the S. P. is getting ahead of the Western Pacific which has a line of surveyors a,t work from Coburg to Contact. This indicates thai it is the intention of b'ofh the railroad companies mentioned men-tioned to build to Contact and that it is a race for which will get there first. The ore tonnage, actual and prospective, pro-spective, of Contact is an attraction for the railroads. According to Mr Tarbet it has been demonstrated that the Contact district has very large veins of high grade ore. True fissure veins are traceable for four miles, through granite and porphyry, carrying carry-ing high grade copper ores as well as gold and silver. Contact district, Mr. Tarbet says, covers a very wide area and is swarming with prospectors prospec-tors now. Quantities of ore have already al-ready been taken out and hauled by team to Wells on a profitable basis, but the large concerns which have the ore prefer to wait the advent of the railroads so as to reduce carrying charges before they begin shipping. There are numerous groups of claims with large amounts of ore on the dumps and in sight which run 16 per cent or better in copper and also carry other values. It is claimed that Contact is a second edition of Butte copper values running high and in addition ad-dition there are bornite and oxide ores running as high as 40 per cent copper besides other metals. The veins are large and the porphyry por-phyry dykes carry good copper values val-ues all through the district. The deepest shafts in Contoct are 350 feet where the sulphide ores are encountered in place. Tlie veins are regular and all that is needed in Contoct Con-toct now is to sink to the 1000-foot level, and from the number of mining min-ing engineers who are now going in every day the conclusion is forced that Contoct is coming to the front after sleeping twenty-five or thirty years. |
