Show O The First House Clocks. Tho very early house o'ocks, which are tho kind In which ordinary collectors col-lectors aro chiefly Interested, wore called bird-cage or lantern clocks. There wero somo of them very small, four or five Inches high, and could bo hung on tho bedpost, which was where Catherlno of Braganza had hers and where Pepys saw It. Ho says in his diary (1CG4): "And her holy water wa-ter at her head as she sleeps, with a clock at her bed's side, wherein a lamp burns and tells her the tlmo of night at any tlmo." |
