The old H clerk felt deeply hurt that the, young. H cr man should be promoted over him, H and complained to the manager. H Feeling that this was a case that H could not be argued, the manager H asked the old clerk what was' the H cause of all the -noise in front of B their building. The clerk went out, and returned M with the answer that it was a lot ot M wagons going out. M The manager then asked what they M were loaded with, and again the clerk M went out and returned, reporting that H they were loaded with wheat. M The manager then sent him to as- J certain how many wagons there were, M and he returned with the answer that H there were sixteen. M Finally he was sent to sec where M they were from, and he returned, say- M ing they were from a city twenty M miles to the north. M The manager then asked the young M clerk to be sent for, and said to mm: H "Will you. sec what is the meaning of H that rumbling noise in front?" - H The young man went out, and re- H turned, saying-: "Sixteen wagons, H loaded with wheat. Tvcnty n.orc H will pass to-morrow. They belong H to Smith & Co., of A , and arc o'n H their way to Cincinnati, where wheat H is bringing one dollar and a quarter H a bushel."
