Show WINE BILL I 1 POES OR PL PETERS AMENDMENT E NT FOR WATER development APPROVED BY UTAH SOLONS drought brought back after it had already passed the senate for reconsideration on one point on which amendment was desired by some interests the drainage district bill was tuesday again sent on its way to the house hous e with three important amendments made during reconsideration the bill Is by the senate committee on en agriculture and is a substitute for a measure introduced by senator W D candland of sanpete San pete who as ranking member of the senate committee on agrical agriculture ture has had charge of the proceedings of that committee throughout on this subject it sought two things to place control of supervisors per perv visors isora of drainage districts more in the hands handi of the people of the districts rather than entirely in the county commission and to give drainage districts some boma powers over ever waters that might be ba developed by the districts the bill was intended primarily to meet a situation in sanpete county where a large area to the north of manti has long been withheld from drainage particularly because the residents there were not particularly fa to giving so much control of the project to the county commis lio sio ners and partly because it was hoped that waiter flowing from the drainage might be used later to irrigate brigate the lower parts of the tracts drained the bill passed the senate monday Te rewritten written from the form in which it was vas originally introduced but retaining practically the ideas of the author in introducing the original bill only senator 11 C tebbs voted against it senator david Hirs chis bill providing for the abolition of the public utilities commission found but a single tham champion plon at the open hearing and discussion hold held by the senate committee on public affairs at the hotel utah J E city attorney of murray was the man to defend the hirschl measure and he did this emphatic emphatically ally and in unmistakable language A dozen of more citizens addressed the committee the tha general trend of their remarks being commendatory comenda tory of the public utilities les board and its work in serving servin 9 tho the public to the general benefit of the people the public affairs committee of the senate comprising J W peters chair man leroy dixon perry 13 fuller A B irvine and david jenson met as senator peters explained to get as much information as possible and ascertain the public sentiment not alone in regard to the bill introduced by senator sanator hirschl hirschi but also as to the attitude regarding two measures introduced by mr peters providing provi diric for amendments to the tha present legislation cont controlling rollin 9 the utilities com commission maslon eherd will be no lincoln county formed in utah at this time from parts of juab tooele thoele and millard counties as was intended had house bill be come a law this bill of which stark of salt lake county was the author would have amended the constitution of the state to make such a formation possible mr stark and other proponents of the measure made a gallant light for it but lost in the final vote and the bill was declared dead the senate passed nine bills down to the house wednesday including the live five in the automobile regulation and gasoline ta soline and license taxes group and two in the healing arts group heavy soporifics were administered to the other two healing arts bills and while they sie are not technically dead it is sincerely hoped by about every senator that these measures may sleep the sleep deep that knows no awakening on the senate table in addition the senate be headed two tills bills originating there and received tho the glad tidings from the house that it likewise decapitated two senate measures report has it that the house boue is willing to take the tha senates word for it that the gasoline bills as they are commonly only dubbed although only on one a of them has to do directly with that motor vehicle fuel are each and all good bills and that therefore the bills may bob up again in the senate within a few days the fact that the house suspended the rules and placed the measures directly on the calendar seemed deemed to lend substance to that rumor wednesday afternoon but there art are soine opponents of the 2 cent gas allne tax who may yet be able to scatter a goodly amount of sand anany on any well greased skids which h may have been arranged in the house 0 HOUSE ACTION ON BILLS S B 46 committee on commerce negotiability of
