Show superior wisconsin april 1922 mr alex dunn dear brother if you were here and I 1 we were re at home I 1 would be very glad to receive a letter from you telling me of your experiences and the characteristics of this thia section of country so I 1 take this opportunity to write you a short letter describing same and to also thank you for your kindness in sending me the transcript each week I 1 can assure you it is much appreciated for I 1 enjoy reading its columns I 1 arrived in chicago a year ago this month remaining there a few days visiting the tha points of interest while there I 1 met howard gee and louis anderson who are attending school at northwestern university I 1 was assigned to minnesota conference by president smith with headquarters at st paul minnesota I 1 labored in that city for about a month and was then to duluth minn a city of about people and I 1 honestly believe it is the only one of its kind in existence elisten ex isten e it is about one mile wide and or thirty miles long situated on a mountain ar or hill slope which slopes to the waters edge of lake superior this body of water is the largest body of fresh water in the world being miles long and miles wide superior wisconsin where I 1 am at present located lies across the bay from duluth a distance of about five or six miles the bay being the boondry line of wisconsin and minnesota states this is a nice city cit of between and inhabitants and a just the opposite of duluth it is as level as as the plains of the great american desert the chief industries of these cities are manufacturing and shipping liavine here rug showcase broom match box chair woolen shoe mattress and tile factories with several others I 1 can not recall at present there are also some large saw mills a steel plant ana many foundry foun drys and naturally there would be fisheries since these cities are built on the coast oi 01 sucha such a large body of fresh water duluth and superior are also shipping centers some of the largest ore docks in the world are built buil there here the ore which is iron ore comes from virginia and hibbing minn 80 miles north of here it is brought in by rail and then loaded in large freighters and goes by water to toledo pittsburg and other eastern points mining companies expect to ship tons of ore this year there are also large coal docks on the lake where millions of tons of coal is stored until ordered by coal dealers this is the coal center for nearly all of the northwestern section of the united states and some parts of canada one other industry seems to flourishing here also and that is I 1 am spending some of my time visiting these industries and find it very interesting the things the human mind can conceive of and put to practical use in carrying en a great portion of work done now days is most moat wonderful and still men doubt this and that concerning the lords work forgetting get ting that his mind is the geat est and his power is supreme ovar over all and he understands his hia own creation after working in duluth three months last spring I 1 was sent bent into the northern part of minnesota to follow up some work and to do country work in that section from there I 1 went to moorehead bloo minna beautiful city and labor ed but three weeks when I 1 was called into other branches of the conference to help carry on the work as many of the missionaries had been released and there were none to take their place I 1 have enjoyed the work very much and rejoice that I 1 have had the privilege of raising my voice in defense of truth wishing you success in your work and thanking you again for you kindness I 1 remain your brother ELDER SAM PARK |
