Show HEALTH supervisor REPORTS WORK health supervisor mrs E 0 thompson on made a report before the B board 0 a r I 1 of education monday on the health conditions in the county schools as far as site she has made examinations the figures that were given to the board were of it valuable nature in determining the health condition of the schools and will undoubtedly be or of inte interest to the pare parents ants and others who are interested or concerned in the now new health crusade in our schools an examination of students in the schools of windover ibapah center benmore vernon lof green areen st john clover bates creek lake point tooele thoele central grantsville Grants ville stockton and ophir showed that a total of were defective or of the students examined out of this thic number or ave had defective teeth or were effected with nasal trouble or had throat trouble 95 had defective eyes 19 defective hearing and 4 had heart trouble in connection with this notices were sent to the parents notifying them of the result of the health examination of the children and personal letters were written by the health supervisor to parents making a personal request that their chi children bo be taken either to a doctor or dentist besides this 40 personal calls have been made to the homes by the health supervisor ten children have been taken to the doctor 91 94 have been taken to the dentist and 16 children have heen taken home additional throat examinations to the number of 1376 1375 have been made its as a of precaution special attention have been riven given to seating lighting eye strain heating ventilation cleanliness clea posture and playgrounds play grounds special monthly hygiene n outlines have be been en furnished all teachers and many other steps which wo we do not need to mention here have been taken to better the sanitary condition of the school room and look after the physical health of the child the figures figure s for tooele thoele county hold a close relation to those of the state the percentage of defectives fec tives of dental defectives etc the thing of most interest to parents is is the fact that the defects so far reported are easily remedied inmany in many cases a few hours at the dentist will place a child in the non defective group if overy every parent would make the effort to correct as far as possible those these minor defects in his ill s own 0 wn children tooele thoele county would soon apon bo be able to report to the state office a progressive spirit ahead of many other counties the defects requiring a greater length of time to remedy such as spinal curvatures uneven shoulders etc have not been closely followed as yet attendance above tile the aberge was the general rule throughout the schools monday showing an increase over the previous week of the number reported absent on account of sican sickness ess twelve cases were investigated by the health supervisor and two children were off because their parents were afraid one child had a bad cold two were out of town one was helping at home one had a headache two had coughs the others were sick with bad colds colda and were advised to s tay stay inid until all danger was over of more serious complications other cases will be bb investigated vesti gated and a very close watch kept by the teachers over the children who are in school |
