Show CAMPAIGN ON FOR FOB MONUMENT FUND TOOELE ALLOTMENT TWENTY FIVE PER CENT ASKED an intense campaign for the raising of funds for the erbe erection tion of a monument to com commemorate memora te the patriotic work ol of the mormon Batta battalion llod during the mexican war and also their part played in the pioneering of this western country is now on throughout this state and even throughout the intermountain inter mountain region at the last regular session of bf the state legislature an appropriation of was waa made for the or er of a monument to commemorate the war service and pioneer work of the mormon battalion this appropriation was upon condition however that the people would raise a si amount to add to this fund which would be available in january of this year A campaign is now being waged throughout tooele thoele county to raise our allotment of on december 17 1919 mr mi C R mcbride was appointed chairman of the mormon battalion committee for tooele thoele county soon after this illis mr mcbride appointed the following committeemen to conduct the drive in in the different precinct of the coif county nty john A bevan began and alfreda alfred M nelson tooele thoele R N bush basht rush ruah valley mont barrus bacius ausink D hunter and W T hudson grant Grants grantsville s aie vi ville these corn ed in the funds the local committee have been taking up the matter in the public schools and church lations zat ions wednesday the history class of the tooele thoele high school made a successful dri drive velor for funds throughout the city and lost last sunday afternoon tile the south ward held a collection for the monument the result of which you will see elsewhere in this issue anyone wishing to make farther fart lier contributions can call be privileged lodo so by handing their money to anyo any o of the above committeemen this monument ent is being erected in honorof honor of american soldiers who served in the mexican war and is not as many suppose a monument that pertains to the mormon church it is true however lio wever that the church and membership thereof are taking an active part in the matter but this is for the purpose of giving due honor to the mormon battalion who took such an active I 1 art in the development of the west as well as doing their patriotic duty in the Mexican war it is asked that an 0 over er sub of 25 be obtained on this drive as the latest figures show that it will tak ethis amount over the original estimate to lo erect tile the monument at the present time after the basket ball game tonight a dance will be given in the opeia oceia house under the direction of the monument committee and the high school and a good share of the proceeds from the dance will go into the monument fund |
