Show A MISSI missionary LETTER city sept 28 1918 dear father I 1 think I 1 will take this thi of writing tj ti all ray my friends in inTo oele as ai it Is ii not possible lile for me to tb write to them ibern all sit at the present tine ame that is it 0 you think this letter worthy of publication I 1 have just finished a visiting trip to saints and friends in the southwest and northwest part of the don conference ference which includes the state of oklahoma in my gravels ravels I 1 found that a severe drought had dried the crops in those sections a great calamity for or the people there as this Is the third year that has brought them a shortage of crops and this year a total failure they cannot move as everything they have of 0 valte valie Is mortgaged to the limit and this Is speaking of the people with few exceptions the bankers have signed an agreement to be lenient with the farmers and help carry them over another year but thit that was a real a case of necessity for both parties for if the farmers had turned in their stock and chattier ch atties mortgaged for their votes notes held by the banks the banks could riot not have turned them into money under present conditions in traveling over the state I 1 have seen some ideal land for irrigation both the site for a dam and the land below it and the farmers arenow are now discussing the ike necesis ity of irrigation and even some of the politicians are run ding lor for office on the plea that they them will bring the whole matter before con press and i crowd the project through t finish aaa A ta the progress la in our our missionary ia causene alt far M tl ae gela in our standing ng before Afie the people of the world those who ire arc inclined incline d towards religion are becoming religious while those who were inclined to be indifferent are becoming more indifferent but through the blending of it all the persecution and prejudice is abating with remarkable and prominent rapidity until now we meet some people who acre were once very prejudiced against us but now thit that the mormon people are about like other people still we meet la a fc few of those intellectual kno walls who wll still 9 give aves us a tongue lashing woy why aiesi bless your soul I 1 have actually had people sellme tell me things about myself ana and belief that I 1 never knew of before and when I 1 would politely tell them that they were wrong in their assumption thit they would become boldly offensive and about dont yon dispute my but I 1 feet feel very grateful that thai these ire are the exception and not the rule the elders laboring in this con faience have great cause to rejoice as many members are being added to the church and many new friends are gi gathering dithering around us every day so much so that we have not elders enough to answer the calls and fr ivita lions we are receiving from out our friends but the mission work still progresses althou out our number of workers become smaller altime as time goes on six months nio ago we had twelve elders working in out our conference today to day we have only five but but still we move along possibly with a little more zeal than ever knowing there is more required ol of us and we intend to in do the will of the lord here in the mission field until it Is said to us well done you may return to zion zion 1 As cyer your lovinie son on ALEX P F DUNN |
