still in it how mucha 1325 in bonds and in cash these honest utahna jay B baldwin wants everyone to read the little story about the boy and girl playing they were M mr and mrs smith in this month s issue of the reader s digest its it s a howler and will make you for get your ulcers I 1 A T roberts chronicle sports editor wrote of the game at st john last week when the home team defeated combined metals 16 to 11 he said it was a farce all the way along and a comedy of errors what he didn dian t mention was the fact that even the umpires were a great comedy team right olsen and johnson the big parade last monday was reviewed by a throng of tooele thoele county spectators who watched with watering eyes as the wind whipped up and down main street those who entered the parade and those in charge are to be corn com mended for their courage in brav ing the hurricane to be in the gala procession F came the bit and spur then the mount riders then the ute rangers after that came an as sort ment of different people of dif ferent ages and in different cos times I 1 saw sterling russell from clover and some of the sagers boys from st john I 1 thought maybe they were part of another group of riders but when I 1 asked them which bunch they were riding with one of them said none of them we were herding cows over in rush valley and the wind caught us next thing we knew here we were in the parade some bystander said look somebody is moving buildings from dugway again I 1 just smiled I 1 knew that was the ad building from deseret chem ical and I 1 could even see the C 0 sitting in there with his feet up on his desk wind caught it too the jaycees had a nice float but by the time it got down to vine street all the crepe paper had blown off and there was nothing showing but a chicken wire cage and the two ping pong pung players on the float lost the ball way back at 2nd south the girls on the float will probably start a new style in hairdos this week wind blown bob the eagles float which won first prize in its division had an eagle perched back inside with the four key words of the fraternal order of eagles placed as steps leading down from it it had a nice over all appearance but hardly any body noticed there were two aag les when the float reached 1st south another eagle came along sail ng with the wind unable to go back and landed right on the float the eagle on the float said hi III baldy come on in and get out of the storm the other eagle aag erly accepted the invitation so when the float was being torn down after the pee rade the men doing the work found they had an other trophy for their lodge room the explanations are really sun sim pie after all afterwards there were kiddies games and races at the football field I 1 went down and entered the sack race but when I 1 went up t to 0 o get my prize the judges discover ed I 1 was on my knees and not a kid after all but it was too late cause I 1 had already licked the sucker then we went over to the park and tried to throw the ring around ace a do dollar aleck I 1 w was a s p pretty r e t t y lucky ari and d joe E beck k kept ep t s saying a y i n g come on n now it s all for the church in stead of taking the money why don t you just take some more rings to throw now I 1 have 2 lousy nickels and 42 iron rings in my wallet the duck pen drew a crowd too you were given three wooden hoops for a dime and the object was to throw one over the head of one of the ducks in the pen there by winning a buck I 1 threw one and made a perfect shot but the duck reached up and pulled the hoop off and tossed it back to me making a nice ringer I 1 we went down to the all star game but it fasted lasted so long some of the ex high school players had to leave the game as school was about to begin coach johnsen s boys represent ing the south won a close well played pitchers battle by the score of 28 to 14 in one or two in bings they had to call time out so the batters could catch their breath from running around the bases so much junior baum from dry canyon hit one hard one that went after it got up so high the wind caught it and nobody ever located the ball again however I 1 did hear that a farmer down in erda swore up and down he seeing things and that it really was hail hall ing baseballs for him on the head while he was cutting hay well anyway everybody had fun and tooele thoele s holiday toll was nil and only a few people hurt during the celebrations and after all that s one thing we can all be glad for ahlup A housewife houe wife answered the doorbell to find a little girl of 5 and her younger brother relatively new at both on the step the little girl was all dolled up in an old formal of her mothers and a grownup hat her little brother was wearing one of his father s hats that wobbled on his head and an older brother brothers s coat that hung almost to the walk I 1 am mrs smith said the little girl in a very formal tone and this is my husband mr smith we weve ve come to call the woman who had answered the call decad ed to play along with the young and their act so she invited mr and mrs smith in for tea the kids walked in and sat down and the hostess went immediately to the kitchen for some cookies and milk when she returned the callers were already headed for the front door must you go so soon soona asked the hostess hop ed you could stay for tea the little girl tossed back an artificially artificial artIficia ll smile we can cant t thank you she said pleasantly mr smith just wet his pants selected |
