Show n elsie green mrs hilda anderson entertained her club at her home last thurs day evening with a delicious fried chicken luncheon those who en joyed the luncheon were mrs rae frandsen mrs norma mrs peg anderson mrs mabel anderson and the hostess grantsville Grants ville city celebrated the fourth of july on monday july 5 the day began when dynamite was set off at daylight in various places around the city and an early morning serenade by the band fol lowed the dynamiting at 10 00 the parade started from the second ward wald church and pre ceedee to the corner of the district school house state highway pat rolman boy roy hanson and city mar shall noel callister with the parade committee and routed traffic off main street while the parade was on display Follow following ipg this were games re lay races handicap races and oth er events which the younger folks enjoyed very much in the evening there was a show and a dance and a fireworks dis ds play which began about 10 p in and was attended by a large crowd prizes for the parade went to the following people prize went and they deceived received a loving cup and 20 in cash 2nd prize was present ed to the G and H store for their float which brought them a lov ing cup and 10 in cash third prize was given to leslie anderson and marnell arbon for their impersonation of the spirit of 76 these boys were dressed as typical mountaineers with their coonskin hats and rifles and horses in the miniature section of the parade first prize went to the 2nd ward primary for their float entill ed storybook fairyland which brought them 10 A second prize of 5 went to bill joe millward son of mr and mrs tom millward and ann williams daughter of mr and mrs cliff williams for a wag on with a miniature replica of the liberty bell the third prize which was 2 50 was given to margaret gardiner daughter of mr and mrs alma gardiner and suzanne brown daughter of lena anderson a erson brown for their gayly decorated tricycles which they rode in the parade at I 1 p m the old timers played the Young youngsters of the town and put on a very good display of base ball know how biow the young un took the game by a score of 11 4 prizes amounting to 20 were given to those who took part in the various games which the firemen had to offer the winners of the bicycle race were given free air plane rides as their reward this prize went to one boy and one girl later the winners of the bi cycle race rode against each other and the boy won and was given a dollar bill the handicap races were best though tom millward a 45 year old man with creaking bones and stiff aching muscles raced mary orr a sixteen year old girl in the best of form and beat her by about ten yards tom started from a re dining clining position posit ioni whereas mary started standing up she had to stop and pick up a dime on her way down consequently she was the last one to arrive at the fin sh ish line viv lawrence raced mike john son and won vie vic ran backwards and mike was allowed to run for ward but he had to go around a man in the middle of the course without touching him that gave vick a five yard lead the judges for the parade were J L cook mrs golden stromberg and alma A gardiner the firemen are very much thrilled with the support of the townspeople and were glad to see so many of them out to help make the celebration a success they were a little disappointed at the response for floats in the parade but they want to thank all those that did take part the fireworks really lit up the whole countryside there are re ports from various communities a round that they could see the fire works and that they enjoyed them very much |
