Show wield field stream by vemon vernon W shields on tuesday june ath e county a board of big game con arol melt met to decide the fate of bur deer and elk in tooele thoele county get a good hold on yourself here are their recommendations which no doubt will cause considerable weeping wailing and gnashing or teeth among the sportsmen of this I 1 atle metropolis our board rec om mended the killing of five hund red doe deer on the west heaston preserve three hundred of them to be taken from the area north of middle canyon to the point of the mountain and two hundred fr from om middle canyon south to ophir can yon this kill is to be made during the regular deer season next year no post season hunt on the elk the board decided to remove fifty head instead of just the usual measly twenty five head and bro ther that s not all in the vernon district they recommended the slaughter of four hundred doe the stansbury range west of grants ville was left as is no I 1 doe kill I 1 and south willow to remain closed you want to know the names of the men serving on this boarde okay here they are bill edwards chairman phares haynes secre I 1 tary roy garrard fish and game department ralph jensen U S afforest forest service barnard castagno cattleman milton sagers cattle man orville pendleton cattleman ren walters utah sportsmen s As and lee warburton wildlife federation mr warburton was not present at this meeting and so mr walters w was s the only member present rep representing relenting the sportsmen at this meeting new of f cers were installed to serve for the next year milton sal sagers of st john was appointed board chairman and roy garrard was was in stalled as secretary the chairman of this board does not have the right to vote i we have lost around two hund red and fifty or three hundred deer during the hard winter on the heaston preserve add to this the five hundred to be killed next seas on plus at least five hundred more that will be killed by unscrupulous city hunters who shoot three or tour four deer and then pick out the best one to keep and you have thirteen hundred deer that will be removed from the west heaston that should take care of our pres ent deer problem for some time to come maybe longer last week the utah junior sportsmen s association assisted mr garrard in the planting of a truck load of fish in clover creeh creek junior members taking part in this plant ng were larry huntington president of 0 the group bert ogden vice president bob christensen and sterling white directors these boys have been trying to get a load of trout planted in settle ment canyon before the opening of fishing season the fact is they were assured of a load by mr leonard state director of the fish and game department but mr garrard refused to plant them be cause he said the stream was too high several sportsmen including myself was of the opinion that the stream was okeh for planting but mr garrard is the boss and we were over ruled and the fish were dumped in the mill pond instead mr garrard assures me however that just as soon as settlement canyon stream goes down he will see to it that a load is planted there in my opinion who cares about my opinion anyway it is positively a waste of trout to plant them in the mill pond that place should be reserved for catfish bass and perch and it should be open to fishing early in april for the catch ing of this type of fish more peo pie would get more enjoyment out of a set up of this kind than they are now under its present status I 1 have yet to see a trout which was taken out of the mill pond that was worth eating all I 1 have ever seen would stink you out of the house before they were half cook ed FISHING OB OR FISHED remelda N gibson one day when friend louis de floor used his worst looking fisherman s lure he caught a huge trout which tugged him about and successfully pulled him OFF SHORE |
