Show Beautification Committee Names Appointees At Council Meeting Several Pleasant Grove residents were named to positions po-sitions on the city's Beautification Beauti-fication Commission during a city council meeting held Tuesday, April 19,2011. Appointed to serve were Louise and Allen Austin, Lisa Coombs, Jill Fichialos, and Gene and Sandi Henderson. Louise and Allen have lived in their home in Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove for 35 years. They said they enjoy the landscapes land-scapes in the town and the efforts and hard work that it involves. They stated that they appreciate all of the hard work the city has done to make Pleasant Grove a beautiful beau-tiful place in which to live. . They said they would like to be an active part of the community and help the city to decide how to continue to improve and beautify it. They added that they would like to learn more about the city and are willing to serve. The Austins stated that they love planting flowers and gardening in their own yard. They added that they are not afraid to get their hands dirty and they will learn to help others. They are members of the Good Sam's Club for eight years and have held many positions in it. They have organized and done a lot of charity work for the commu nities. At the state Samborees they have been in charge of auctions, games, dinners, cuke walks, etc., to raise money for charity. Lisa Coombs stated that Pleasant Grove is a beautiful city in itself, and she wanted to be a part of not only maintaining main-taining its beauty but also continuing con-tinuing to help our city thrive. She has lived in Pleasant Grove for almost 20 years and there is something so inviting invit-ing about being here. She is proud to be a Pleasant Grove resident and wants to help have it to be the best and most beautiful city in Utah. Lisa added that she has a lot at stake here because she has raised her family here and has enjoyed being part of the PG family. Lisa continued that she loves Spring and all the new life it brings. "I love to have flowers every where and enjoy finding new vegetation to add. She likes to be involved, giving giv-ing and listening to new ideas and she is willing to learn and be taught. "Words cannot even explain ex-plain how excited I am to be a part of something bigger in Pleasant Grove. My only regret re-gret is it's taken me this long to do this. I'm excited to jump in feet first and do what it takes to make PG the best city in Utah," she concluded. Jill Fichialos noted that she loved the "old feel" of the area. The mix of residential resi-dential and small pastures is something that is so rare now, she added and I love the huge old trees and I appreciate appreci-ate how many parks we have. She noted that she feels it is important to serve in your community. In addition she has an interest in gardening garden-ing and landscaping, so it would be great to serve and enjoy some of her hobbies at the same time. Jill is currently working on her Master Gardener certification cer-tification through Utah State. She has also taken many classes over the years and she is especially interested in organic gardening. She serves at her daughters' daugh-ters' school and is actively involved in her church. Gene and Sandy Henderson Hen-derson have always been impressed with the beauty of Pleasant Grove. They love living here and would like to serve on the commission. They feels it is important to keep our own homes and neighborhoods looking good and promoting and helping help-ing with this would be very worthwhile. They have recently returned re-turned from a mission and feel they would like to serve in the community. They noted that they have been impressed with the work of Rue and Mary Neilson and Lynda and Dave Monson on this commission. The Hendersons noted that they transformed a 100 year old building into a luxury Bed and Breakfast in Provo. They know the importance im-portance of making the outside out-side of a building look just as beautiful as the inside. They said they gained a feel for landscaping old historic buildings and they would like to continue helping help-ing others who might be interested in-terested in landscaping their historic buildings. The Henderson's chaired the 2002 International Interna-tional Ice Carving Competition Com-petition for the Salt Lake City Olympics and have served on the executive board for the Utah State Bed and Breakfast Association. Gene was also president of the Utah County Lodging Association and on the Executive Ex-ecutive Committee of the Utah State Lodging Association Asso-ciation and was also on the board of the National Bed and Breakfast Association. Sandi was on the Executive Ex-ecutive Board of the Provo Orem Chamber of Commerce Com-merce and co-chair of the Provo Sesquicentennial Committee. |
