The Vik-ettes spend three days danc-ing, working out and taking time to build their team unity. The Vikettes were one of 18 schools to attend the camp that week and had a great time. They spent the week learning four different dance routines, taking two master classes in hip-ho- p and lyrical styles and working on their dance technical skills. They worked extremely hard for the three days and were recog-nized each and every day for their efforts. On Monday evening the Vikettes participated in the annual performance night. They performed their compe tition hip hop routine. At the end of the evening, they were voted by the other schools as the favorite performance of the night. That evening they also received the best technique award. On Tuesday evening they were given the best in lyrical master class award. To end the camp, on the final day 40 dancers are selected to com-pete in the Top Corp contest. Of those 40, five are given the award of being Top Corp. Vik-ett- e member Lacey Rose was selected to receive that presti-gou- s award. To round out the list of awards the Vikettes won dur-ing the week, they were voted Most Inspirational team by the camp staff and other teams. This award meant so much to the Vikettes, knowing that they were able to inspire other teams to be better, was very exciting and overwhelming for the team. The camp was amaz-ing for the team to participate in. Each year they attend this camp and every year they seem to grow, becoming a bet-ter, more talented team. Before the Vikettes take a break for the month of July, they will be heading up a ma-jor fund raiser by working at the TNT firework stand at the Lindon Walmart. Please help out the team by purchasing your fireworks there. Aerial Fireworks are now legal in the state of Utah. They are very powerful and exciting and would be the perfect finale for your neighborhood fireworks show. Please stop by and pur-chase your fireworks at the Lindon TNT stand. While up above them, children swarmed the tricky bars, slide, climbing, running and jumping place. A little further east children were running and jumping and throwing footballs with their parents and siblings. There was a father play-ing with a burp rag to make a baby laugh, teenage girls calling out, "Cotton candy and kettle corn," and here and there members of Utah Val-ley Skyline Chorus handing out invites to the next night's concert. And, of course, lines of people dish-ing up food from Culinary Creations, mashed potatoes, pulled pork, beef brisket and hamburgers and onions, and cookies, lots of cookies. In the background was an imposing inverted V on Box Elder Peak and further in the background, snow on the mountain at the end of June. Everyone was enjoying the last of the sunlight, waiting for the movie "How To Train Your Dragon" to begin. The night before, the city council considered whether to buy a projector and outdoor movie screen for $25,000, which would last about 10 years or rent for about $2,500 each time. They decided not to buy. It was a scene full of ener-gy and happy sounds. A quick count of one area showed about 100, with two or three other areas having about the same number and more show-ing up as dark fell. Movie goers sat on blankets, chairs and the grass to enjoy a good old outdoor movie that wasfiinfor the whole family..
