Show Improvements to U-128 Being Completed Two bridge projects have been underway on Utah 128 east of Moab in recent months. According to State Superintendent of Roads this district, George White, one of the structures has just been completed and the other is currently being worked on. The recently constructed bridge spans Pace Canyon which is near the junction of Castle Valley Road. Formerly, Former-ly, Mr. White said, the wash was crossed by a one-way bridge. Now a steel-pipe half half arch bridge sits on concrete con-crete footers. The bridge is 30 feet wide and eliminates the former hazard that existed ex-isted with the old bridge. This was a $12,000 project, Mr. White said. Surfacing of the bridge will take place in the spring when warmer weather returns to the area. The State crews are now working on a bridge to cross Sagers Wash which is about four miles north of the Dewey Bridge, 35 miles from the Colorado Bridge north of Moab. The crews will be putting in piling beds with concrete footers. The bridge will be 100 feet long and will be constructed con-structed with pre-stressed concrete. It will be 15 feet wide with a railing also of pre-stressed concrete. The bridge, Mr. White said will have about a 20 foot clearance above the water line. There is about 4000 cubic yards of dirt that will have to be removed in this area. The State crews are using a large caterpiller with a 12 yard can to scrape away the dirt. The crews are working on approaches at the current time and getting the footers built now. "This bridge will be constructed con-structed a bit differently than the ordinary bridges seen normally around here," ' stated stat-ed Mr. White. ' ' White is asking for' special autority to have a section of Utah 128 completed by spring This includes a stretch near Nine-Mile Bottom. Leveling and straightening of curves is the State crews' objective here. "When this is finished," Mr! White said, "Utah 123 will be a pretty good two-lane two-lane road." " |
