Show Citizens protest City Manager form of government in Moab at Tuesday Council meet The normally quiet and empty spectator section of the Moab City Council meeting room was sparked to life with questions and discussions discus-sions at the regular meeting Tuesday. Main topic of discussion was concerned with the selection of a City Manager. The contract of the current City Acuriinistrator, Dave Bretzke expired April 30. At the last City Council meeting, a resolution was passed authorizing the publication of advertisements for the position of City Manager. The search for a City Manager is a result of an ordinance passed in May, 1977 establishing the job classification. The Council voted to accept applications for City Manager through May. Current Administrator Administra-tor Bretzke is also eligible for the position. Citizens attending the meeting expressed concern over the duties to be assigned to the City Manager. Several people expressed strong objection to the wide range of responsibility involved in the job. One spectator commented, "He'd better be able to walk on water, too." Another point raised was to whom the City Manager would b accountable. Under the ordinance the Manager will be under th authority of the City Council Several people stated a desire t have the Manager position directl; under the control of the Mayor. The Council agreed to publisl the May 1977 ordinance in th newspaper again and make copie: available to concerned citizens.
