Show New walk in Arches s now being conducted An additional walk has been scheduled over the weekends through April and. May in Arches Nat. Park, it was announced this week. The Ranger-guided Ranger-guided walk is provided every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, starting from the Courthouse Wash bridge at 2 p.m. According Accord-ing to Unit Manager Larry Reed, the walk takes a couple of hours and offers an opportunity to discover bird and plant life that flourishes in the area. Recommended equipment for the walk is a pair of tennis shoes", sunhat, insect in-sect repellant, binoculars and a container of water. The traditional campfire program is presented each evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Devils Garden Campground Camp-ground amphitheater. A variety of topics are covered including area history, botany, zoology, astronomy, geology, and ecology. The popular Fiery Furnace Furn-ace Walks are provided twice daily at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The walks takeabout two hours and cover a distance of two miles. Visitors wishing to go on the walks should meet at the Fiery Furnace parking lot a few minutes before the scheduled tour. Additional programs will be offered in May and will be announced soon after the advent of daylight day-light saving time. The Arches Visitor Center is open from 8 a.m. 'to 5 p.m. daily. A geologic museum and slide programs pro-grams are available, and Ranger assistance is available avail-able at the information desk and through roving Park Rangers on trails throughout the park. |
