Show Local Aspen Disease Identified State Area Forester Marc Hughes announced this week that he had received word from the Regional Office in the U. S. Forest Service in Ogden that some samples of diseased aspen in the Dark Canyon Lake area were suf fering from a disease common com-mon to most aspen growing areas. M. C. Galbraith, assistant Regional Forester, stated in a letter to Mr. Hughes mat "Marsonina Populi," as the disease is called, is usually worse in years with more than average rainfall, as the past summer was. The amount am-ount of infection varies from year to year, stated Gal-bfaith.'"' Gal-bfaith.'"' Although severe infection in a number of continuous years will result in growth loss and possibly death of the tree, control methods for . forest conditions are not practical. For highly valuable valu-able trees, the fallen leaves may be collected and burned. |
