The well, j being drilled by Loffland Drilling Company, is for Union Oil Company. I Oil Discoveries, Drilling Activity Near Noah Raise Hopes for Busy Exploration Year Ahead Early reports concerning two . wells which have just been completed in the Book Cliffs in northern Grand County indicate that the area might prove promising for future oil exploration, according ac-cording to a reliable source this week. The wells, one drilled by the Anschutz Corporation and the other by Toledo Mining, are located in the left and right hand forks respectively of Bull Canyon north of the Cunningham Ranch in the Book Cliffs. Although complete com-plete information on the discoveries dis-coveries was not available, it was reported that the Anschutz Ans-chutz welt was at a depth of 4,760 feet in the Morrison formation and was producing at a rate of 240 barrels per day. The Toledo well, was listed, as 4,071 feet deep in the En-trada En-trada formation and is said to be producing about, 200. barrels of oil per day with a water content of only 15 barrels.- . - - Drilling is continuing this week cn a Union Oil Co. we'l on the Sand Flats east of Moab with the latest report on depth of that test being 7,800 feet. A report indicated, indicat-ed, however, that the well should be nearing 8,100 feet in depth at this time. The well js being drilled by Loffland Loff-land Drilling, under contract to Union. This flurry of activity in Grand County is the greatest which has been experienced in recent years and informed sources are optimistic that . the discovery of oil at the two wells in the Book Cliffs will mean a renewal of a good number of wildcat drilling drill-ing operations in the area. |
