Show Hearing Called On BLM Land In San Juan Bureau of Land Management Manage-ment officials will be holding hold-ing a public meeting in Monticello on December 1 and in Blanding on December Decem-ber 3, to hear sentiments on management of land in the South San Juan Planning Plan-ning Unit of the Monticello Monticel-lo District of the BLM. The Bureau has made an inventory of resources in the South San Juan Unit and are now asking public opinion on hew those resources should be managed so that a coordinated coordin-ated multiple use plan to protect, manage, and develop de-velop the lands and resources re-sources to meet present and future demands can be met. The resources in the unit include: gas and oil, livestock grazing, wildlife habitat historical features archaeological treasures, scenic splendor, recreational recrea-tional attractions and water wa-ter production. Some of those areas on which comments are being solicited include protection protec-tion of the Mormon Trail, watershed protection in the Lake Canyon, Butler Wash, and Cottonwood Wash areas; grazing and recreational development near Castle Wash; travel influence and agriculture as well as wildlife habitat in the Grand Flat, Cedar Mesa area; mineral exploration ex-ploration versus primitive area on Mancos Mesa and discussion of the Red Canyon, Can-yon, Wingate Mesa, Found Mesa and Jacob's Mesa areas with regard to desert des-ert bighorn sheep versus mineral exploration. |
