Show Moab Teacher Returns From Atlanta Conference James Walger, geography teacher at Grand Junior lliga School, returned recently from the National Conference of the National Council for Geographic Geogra-phic Education which was held Nov. 22-28 in Atlanta, Georgia. The conference allowed tho exchange of ideas from geography fcaehers from across Ihe nation in secondary, secon-dary, elementary and college level courses. Speaker at tiio banquet for (he Council was Dean Rusk, former Secretary of Statj d'iring the Kennedy and Johnson administrations. Rusk made an introductory statement on the issue of ''Power and Peace" and also devoted some time for discussion dis-cussion with the audience. Luncheon speaker for the meeting was Allen A. Schneider. Schnei-der. Director of Task Force 72. U.S. Office of Education, who discussed the "Myth of Ihe Population Explosion and Ecological Overkill." Walker was one of about five representatives at the convention from Utah, and he represented Grand Schorl District. In addition to attending at-tending the Council, Walker was chosen as a respondent in one of tho sessions, lie reported re-ported that he had brought back information which would be used by Ron Pierce and himself in their team teaching teach-ing approach to geography. In addition, much of the information in-formation will be used by the elementary teachers in the;r curriculum development work. As a result of attending the convention, both Walker and Pierce will be presenting the programs they are using here in teaching at the next National Convention which will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. |
