Show Telluride Planning Big Week of Events The City of Telluride, Colorado and Ski Resort announce that the 3rd Annual An-nual Coonskin Carnival will be held this year from February 5 through February 9 inclusive. Among the fun events scheduled for the Carnival Carni-val will be NASTAR Races and the local "Toilet "Toi-let Bowl" - or "Royal Flush Cup" race, for which employees of local businesses only are eligible. eli-gible. Other events in which the public is invited in-vited to partake will be a Costume Contest on skiis, a free style competition, com-petition, No-Sled Races and Kids Races. Saturday evening a torchlight parade down Coonskin trail into town will culminate in a fireworks fire-works display presented by members of the Telluride Tellu-ride Volunteer Fire Department. De-partment. A new event this year will be a Gelandesprung contest with top jumpers from several ski areas competing for a $1,500 purse. Preliminaries and practice jumping will be held on Saturday, February Febru-ary 8 with finals competition compe-tition Sunday, February 9 at 10:30 a.m. Other Carnival activities activi-ties include an Ice Sculpture Sculp-ture Contest and ice ska-ling ska-ling and bonfire party at the local skating pond. A special added attraction attrac-tion to the Carnival this year will be over 100 hang-gliders soaring overhead ving for top honors in their field. Many will t.ike off and land on skiis in a free flying event w,hich will also take place on Sunday. Sun-day. The flyers will depart de-part from the Top O'Six, elevation 11,950 ft., and will soar spectacularly 3.200 ft. above Telluride, landing eventually just west of the Telluride Lodge. |
