Show Busy Docket Heard By District Court Judge Edward Sheya presided pre-sided over Seventh Judicial District Court on Tuesday, the regular law and motion day. He stated that a busy docket was heard. In the first case, the Staie of Utah versus Velma Oliver, the defendant pleaded guilty to unlawfully selling an alcoholic alco-holic beverage. She was sentenced sen-tenced to pay a fine of $300 and to serve 90 days in the Grand County Jail. The jail sentence was suspended upen the following conditions: that she pay the fine of $300 in full within one week from the . date of sentencing; and that she obey all Federal, State and local laws and ordinances for a period of one 1 year. Judge Sheya stated that tiio reason that all of the sentence was susoended with the above conditions was that it was the defendant's first offense. Larry Sheets and Gsry McLean Mc-Lean appeared for arraignment arraign-ment en a charge of sale of narcotic drugs and the information was read to them and they entered pleas of innocent. in-nocent. Trial was then set for Feb. 24, 1972. Delford Hotz also appeared for arraignment on a charge of selling narcotic drugs and entered a plea of innocent. His trial was set for Feb. 22, 1972. In the case of the State of Utah versus Robert Richard Scott, Judge Sheya stated that Sheriff W. H. Bowman had delivered Scott last wreek to the Salt Lake County Jail where he is to undergo exam inations and tests to determine deter-mine whether or not he is acceptable at any institution for rehabilitation. Scott has been sentenced to a term of 5 years to life imprisonment in the Utah State Prison and has served almost one year in that institution. He is still in cusody, Judge Sheya stated, stat-ed, but has made application to the court to allow him to receive medical care and treatment designed to rehabilitate rehab-ilitate him. Judge Sheya stated that the court is scrutinizing the situation situa-tion carefully to ascertain whether or not Scott is a fi!-person fi!-person for rehabilitation, and that is the reason for the tests are being tasen. In the evem; information is not shown to the satisfaction of the court that the defendant has a good chance for rehabilitation. Scott will be required to serve the remainder of his prison term. . Civil matters before the court included a number of varied i.ems as well as numerous num-erous probate matters and ether miscellaneous legal actions. |
