Show Wilson in Washington On Park Extension Sen. Frank E. Moss, D-Utah, D-Utah, this week announced that the Parks and Recreation Recrea-tion Subcommittee of the Senate Interior Committee will hold hearings in Washington, Wash-ington, beginning Wednesday of this week, on two Moss bills aimed at affecting twe Utah recreation areas. The first bill, S. 26 would expand the boundaries . of Canyonlands National Park. The other, S. 27, would establish es-tablish a Glen Canyon Recreation Rec-reation Area. . .Senator Moss has ' been named by Subcommittee Chairman, Sen. Alan Bible, D-Nevada, to chair the hearings. hear-ings. Canyonlands National Park Superintendent, Bates E. Wilson Wil-son left this week for Washington, Wash-ington, to be present for the hearings. Wilson stated that he expected to appear before the Subcommittee either on Wednesday or Thursday to answer questions regarding the addition of 102,000 acres. Involved in the acreage will be scenic areas of the Maze, Canyon and Dead Horse Point State Park. Senator Moss stated this week: "These hearings are merely the first, necessary ' step in the legislative process. pro-cess. It is much too late in this session to get a . bill through, but we will establish estab-lish a preliminary record on the bills. Having held these hearings, we can proceed with field hearings in Utah this fall, and be ready to reintroduce re-introduce the two, bills when Congress meets in January," he concluded. |
