Show Mill Levy Jumps a Fr Fraction We were in hopes that with this years year's increased property valuation in Grand county that possibly the mill levy for determining 1957 taxes could possibly be lowered However with reports in from all bodies determining the various portions of the levy we vre see that it has again risen a fraction of a mill It is apparent that the raises were inevitable and on closer examination itis it itis itis is plain to see that actually a 11 reduction in levy the additional amount coming from a levy set up by Grand county's voters voters vot vot- ers era last November when they decided to create a 11 special cemetery district the cost of which will amount to one mill The Grand county commission met Monday the City council Tuesday Levies were set at these meetings The school had previously determined their levy as the tho same as the last year and the state school equalization was received Wednesday Wednesday Wednesday Wednes Wednes- day making possible a total mill levy figure The total including schools city and county is this year as compared with mills last year This increase seems small to us in light of the tho fact that that we have a new elementary school a 11 new hospital a 11 new swimming center situated in a new city park over aver what we had a year ago And along with these new improvements we have the added expense of running and maintaining them Running public bodies during periods of unbelievable growth is no different than running individual businesses Immediate expansion is necessary to keep up and quick expansion must be paid for over overa a period of years Although we would have liked very much to see this years year's mill levy lowered we w would not like to see it done at the expense of losing some of these fine improvements improvements improvements im im- we are so proud of We must realize that we are obligated ted to pay for what we have gotten and will have to look to future e economizing for or budget cuts |
