| Show most successful year Th The Moab Chamber of Commerce has just completed what might easily be classed as Its most successful year In history A w well planned and executed membership drive placed considerably con con- more funds In the treasury than expected Judicial watch over monthly expenses and much personal time and effort by last years year's officers combined to operate one of the most eventful years In history and at the same time leave well over 2000 In the treasury to begin the new year Much of the success can be attributed to general condItions conditions conditions condi condI- In Moab and Grand County during 1962 Events such as the controversy etc also go along to make the year noteworthy This Is no Indication however that these were the most Important factors This years year's Chamber leadership undoubtedly exceeded time and effort expended by any other group of officers And their acceptance by the community was reflected time and time again as record groups attended luncheon and monthly membership meetings President Ed Claus and his other officers Glen Carlson and J. J G. G Pinkerton are arc to be commended for or their efforts The coming year poses many challenges for the Chamber and Indications at the Monday evening meeting were that this years year's officers are vigorously moving Into the year to accept those challenges The attraction of new Industry to fill a somewhat somewhat some some- what temporary void expected during early 1963 was listed I as the number one objective of the new year and committees have already been selected to begin working on this and other problems An active Chamber of Commerce was never more sorely needed than It Is now This group of aggressive business and professional people can do much toward guiding the future of the community But the work ahead will take time much time much time And as always happens the men meri best able to do the job are already actively involve Involved In their own businesses and professions and time spent on chamber activities can only be listed as personal personal per per- Bonal sacrifice Several years ago Moab's chamber employed a lull time full time executive director unencumbered by clerical duties and free freeto freeto to Initiate and spearhead chamber activities This Th's position was ably filled at that time and the Chamber went through its most years The move however was premature and Income simply did not match the additional expenses of 01 ofa ofa a time full executive director plus clerical help Since the tha Chamber withdrew from that organizational make up and reduced its Us payroll the job of secretary has been very ably tilled filled by Mrs Betty Jacobs the present secretary She along with last years year's officers Is to be commended for lor her Increasingly valuable service But with additional income annual and an expanding business community perhaps a review of the full full- time director plus clerical help plan might well be in order There are numerous fields of endeavor where the chamber cham chain ber could develop additional economy for lor the community They are too numerous to mention in full lull but as examples additional additional addi addi- emphasis on conventions movies and Industry by a person who Vho could devote his full lull time would surely pay payoff off offIn offin In tn the long run The Chamber of Commerce has developed tremendously during the past four lour years as a n powerful aid to community development But to remain effective it must move aggressively aggressively Into the coming years with new ambitions and new philosophies In other words chamber officials must be sure that their organization grows and develops along with the community it serves |
