Show I Moab Young Lady Wins Scholarship Sponsored by National Foundation i r r Miss Louise Louis Prichard Louise Prichard of Moab this week was a 1901 1961 National National National Na Na- Foundation Health Scholarship Scholarship Scholarship Schol Schol- In physical therapy by Mrs Mars Pope rope chairman of the Grand County Chapter of the National Foundation Miss Pritchard will attend the University of Utah In Salt Lake City This year four-year scholarship of a year Is made possible by contributions to the New March of ot Dimes It gives me great pleasure to present this health scholarship scholar scholar- ship to Miss Pritchard Mrs Pope said Miss Pritchard was born In Moab In 1943 She started start start- ed her schooling In Price Utah It was when she was six years old that she was stricken with polio and received treatment at atthe atthe atthe the Hospital in Jn Salt Lake City under Dr Paul Pemberton She missed 10 consecutive weeks of school In the first grade but passed with flying colors Louise moved to Moab with her family In May of 1951 She wore a brace on her right leg until her first operation on her right foot in May of 1953 A second operation was performed In 1935 1993 The third operation which was the largest was wu In 1957 1951 In July of 1953 1958 she went to Mexico for lor three weeks with Mrs Mitchell and her Girl Girt Scout troop Her lIer handicap has n never vet hampered any of her varied activities collecting rocks reeks insects or going camp ing In fact tact she attended a 4 J 4 4 11 H camping trip at Warner the summer of her first operation wearing a cast and using crutches Louise didn't have any trouble with school work receiving majority majority ma man of ot As during both Junior high and senior high school She belonged to the National Honor lIonor Society for three years was sec secretary seen her senior year She was valedictorian of ot the Class of 61 She began working for tor Holder Engineering Service In June of or 1960 and continued working after school during her senior year and has continued her employment employment employment em em- there this summer Our young people men people men and women dedicated to helping others others will will one day help relieve the acute shortage of trained personnel In the health fields fieldsa fields fields- a shortage that becomes more serious every day The National Foundation through March ot of Dimes contributions Is proud to be able to give them a helpIng helpIng helping help- help Ing hand Mrs Pope rope said sald This This' Is the third year the health scholarships have been awarded by the National Foundation Foundation Foun dation which Is seeking to prevent prevent pre pre- vent birth defects and arthritis In addition to continuing its program directed toward the total prevention of or polio Recipients of the scholarships for tor study In medicine medical social work nursing physical l therapy and occupational ther thee therapy therapy apy are selected in each state by committees composed of five state health leaders representing represent represent- ing the professions included Inthe in inthe inthe the program scholarships are offered annually |
