M sculptor at a I meeting of df the club held last I Monday evening Mr had made the staI stae statue sta sta- I tue for the Moab Lions who will place it in the visitors visitor's center at Arches National Monument as soon os s it is constructed The Lions will ship the bust to New York for casting in bronze Dr Williams was known as the Father of the Arches because because be be- cause of his efforts to have the scenic area designated as a national monument During the many years he lived at Moab serving as physician for the area acea he spent a great deal of time among the colorful and picturesque picturesque esque sandstone monoliths 0 11 t h s around Moab and was the first person to actually visualize the formed arch area as a place which should be set aside for its preservation and as an area of nature wonders to b be enjoyed by all It was through his efforts ef er efforts forts first individually and later with the Moab Lions that the national monument came Into being Mr creator of the statue Is secretary-manager secretary of the Moab J Chamber of Commerce His Ills artistic abilities include clay sculpturing and wood carving and much of his work worle has been shown in Denver Albuquerque Albuquerque- and Salt Lake City as well a as a. being displayed at af the Moab Museum |
