Ferren Box no Moab loab Utah Nov 61 Pear Dear Sam Sara With all the Interest being taken around the State in preserving the historical old buildings of ot our Pioneers we the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers wondered If U maybe j I we could get some one in Moab loab interested in helping us save our old Church I do not know how much the Moab public knows about this building and our struggle to preserve it so I would like to present a few facts Twenty five or thirty years ago the DUP were given a alc alease alease lc lease ase we thought for or 99 years by the Grand County School District for the little old Church across the street from the Jr High building Thru a understanding mis-understanding we did not get the lease signed but we put a new roof on the building stuccoed the outside out out- side put in a sprinkler system system system tem planted lawn shrub- shrub ery cry and built a fence around the lawn even had a DUP marker put on the building we have a picture with Mrs Kate B B. B Carter and your Grandmother Lydia Watts shown placing the marker We Ve gathered pictures and relics of Moab's pioneers to this valley v and opened the building many times for school classes in history and interested people from all aU allover allover over the country who stopped stopped stopped stop stop- ped to view our progress This church was not only a u church it was was' the dance hall the theater community hall bail funeral home in fact the central meeting place for lor lorall all important affairs of this community in the early days II When the boom started in Moab and the school needed more room we found to our pur sorrow orrow we did not have a alease alease alease lease on the building as we had bad supposed The school nee needed ed more room so we moved our treasures to a aback aback aback back room and locked them up with the exception of our piano which we let the school chool use Its It's still being used used used us us- ed there Since that time we have tried desperately to find a away away away way to save the building Itie It ItIs ItIs Is ie a choice bit of our past and could be a real addition to attract tourists to view our progress We are asking the public of Moab to Investigate our history and help us to preserve pre serve this Pioneer Church If you will print this U It may be a start toward more interest in the building Sincerely Gwyn Meador for tor or the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers |
