Show Melon Days Celebration Big Success in Green River Melon Days celebration started at 10 am a.m. Saturday morning with the largest parade parade parade par par- ade ever witnessed followed followed followed fol fol- fol- fol lowed by a 2 pm p.m. rodeo held no punches a 7 pm p.m. baseball game with many a l laugh and a 9 pm p.m. dance which saw the crowning of the 65 1964 annual queen This was followed Sunday by a 2 pm p.m. rodeo and the drawing of the lucky winner of the annual raffle this year being a cycle Most townspeople as well as many neighbors and friends were lined along three blocks of the highway and two blocks on Broadway to witness witness witness wit wit- ness one of the nicest and largest parades In the history of Melon Days Celebrations The parade began at the city park traveled in L design to the city hall and back of the park where the floats were viewed and judged Taking first honor was which carried their queen while a replica of melon melon melon mel mel- on and missile spooned Second went to Kens Ken's Repair and nd third to Lees The annual Saturday night dance saw the crowning of the queen Miss Ruth Bedier by ARC who wh was picked this year from the largest slate of candidates ever participating nine In all Her Ber were Miss Annette Annette Annette An An- nette Erwin and Miss Sharon Cline CUne Chamber of Commerce Other entrants included Miss Penny Irvine Miss Cynthia Woodward Miss Mis Jann Silliman Miss Sharon Thompson Miss Brenda Walt Walt- mire and Miss Barbara Carba Car Car- ba jal The winner of the cycle was Mrs Calvern Adams of Green River display under 24 hour guard was the Athena missile which was assembled from pieces in front of the Hometown Industries build build- ing This plus melons galore made this years year's two-day two I event the greatest yet and plans are already being discussed discussed dis dis- dis cussed for lor next years year's blowout blowout blowout blow out |
