M Smith district manager of the Grand Junction office said today Social Security benefits provide provide pro pro- vide only a foundation on which the individual can build his own personal financial security Mr Smith explained It is not in in- tended that tha t the social security benefits alone maintain the family fam faro fly ily after the retirement or death of the family breadwinner it is intended that the working person provide his own retirement in income income in in- come by his insurance annuities and savings program so that income from these sources along with the income received in the form of social security benefits will enable mable the family to live in financial security and comfort In addition to Income from savings programs Investments and other sources Mr Smith called attention to the fact that the retired person may be able to supplement his income with a apart apart apart part time or seasonal Job The social security law permits a beneficiary to earn as much as 1200 in a Calendar year and to receive his social security checks throughout the year The law also permits payment of one or more benefit checks in a year in which the beneficiary may earn over 1200 but not over 2080 The number of monthly benefit checks due for that year will depend on the amount of total earnings and on how much work was done in Ir each month In addition no matter how much is earned in a year monthly benefit checks can be paid for any month in which neither wages of over 80 were earned nor substantial services in self self employment rendered If you have any questions a representative of the Grand Junction Junction Junction Junc Junc- tion office will be in Moab on February 13 13 at the Employment office from 10 a. a m m. to 12 noon |
