Show Fort Forty Years Forty years ago this week the undersigned became becam e editor and manager of this newspaper and he has continued continued continued contin contin- on the job during the more than 2000 w weeks ks that have hav transpired since then On com completion of twenty years as publisher we printed an editorial entitled Twenty Years In looking over this editorial we cant can't think of any better way to note our fort forty years of service as local editor than by reproducing It with h the suggestion that you multiply the sentiments therein expressed by two The editorial follows With the publication of this issue the writ writer r has completed twenty years as editor and mana manager r of the Grand Valley Times and Ti he Times Twenty years quite a period of time as one reckons reckons reck reck- ons the length of a lifetime In these two decades we have issued 1040 editions of the paper and have written written written writ writ- ten practically everything that went into those edit edi- edi t It has been a pleasant job and while it has not been especially remunerative we we have derived some some satisfaction from the thought that we were rendering a service to our community county and state y J During these twenty years the Grand Valley Times later The Times Independent has hus made a steady growth It has hns managed to pay its way Although Although Although Al Al- though business at times was meager we have been consoled by the anticipation of better things in the fu fu- fu ture fure Higher production costs occasionally made the papers paper's existence somewhat precarious but the business business business busi busi- ness nevertheless carried on as usual We can truthfully truthfully truthfully truth- truth fully say that during those twenty years we have never printed sprinted an edition that did not represent our very best efforts feeble though they may have been Looking back over those twenty years we can remember re remember remember re- re member many disappointments many anxious moments moments moments mo mo- ments many heartaches and even more vividly we re- re CUll Happiness mat comes irom from l moor bor conscientiously conscientiously rendered and apparently appreciated One cannot cannot cannot can can- not write the major portion of a newspaper for over a thousand housand weeks without becoming attached t to his read read- ers ers To him they are more than subscribers they are warm friends He lie becomes interested in their problems I lems is th their ir welfare Ho He is very desirous of their esteem iH feels attached s to them by bonds far more enduring t mth than m 1 ro business dealings It n It is a pleasant thought thought one one from which we derive derive derive de de- de- de rive much satisfaction that satisfaction that hundreds of present day subscribers of The Tho Times-Independent Times were were regular readers when we w we took over the management of the paper twenty years ago ago We are proud of o this compliment compliment compliment ment which we wo feel eel speaks for itself The f i The iThe writer has tried to be fair We Ve have endeavored endeavored endeavored ored to print the tho best very newspaper within our power and facilities to produce And now at the outset of the second twenty years we ve weare are re glad we H live o in in Moab We Wo are ha happy py in the tho b belief lief that tiye we weare are rendering a valuable service to our town and county We Ve are content still to be publishing a good paper in a good town We Ve are proud of the loyal support support sup sup- port port- of our hundreds of friends scattered throughout n la wide area While we may be getting gray in the service weare we weare are are still with the belief an and faith that we ve we are located in the best district in the USA U.S.A. Southeastern Utah is an empire still undeveloped and under but nevertheless a n region that is destined to come into its own before many years Better roads better transportation facilities will work a n wonderful transformation in this section There is satisfaction in publishing a n newspaper in a country such as U this s. s As Ae we have done in the first twenty years so will wUl we continue to do o in the second twenty years years publish publish the news exploit legitimately the resources of f this great southeastern domain and render an honest publishing pub pub- lishing service to the people whom we serve I L.
