Show I COMMUNITY NEW YEAR WATCH SERVICE TO BE STAGED AGED AT MOAB CHURCHES SUNDAY NIGHT I In vi view of ot the national crisis and the state of ot emergency de declared declared de- de dared by the president Sunday Dec 31 has been set aside as a national day clay of prayer in the churches of America The call comes from the National Council Counell Coun Coun- ell cil of Churches of the United States of which Rev Henry Knox Sherrill is president To provide for a local observance observance observance ance at Moab of the occasion a a. a committee representing the community com corn met at t the B Baptist church Wednesday to discuss plans and make arrangements for a a proposed watch night service ser ser- service ser ser- vice on the evening of Dec 31 The committee consisted of the following representing both of the local churches Carl Mecham G. G U. U Foote Miss Rhea Pope Miss Helen Garlett Mrs J. J W. W Corbin Mrs E. E W. W Stout Ralph and Rev F. F L. L Dawson While the program as ed is tentative and subject to change the service will be held beginning at 8 pm p.m. and continuing continuing continuing contin contin- through 12 midnight each ea-ch 50 minute 50 minute period being followed by a 10 minute intermission The first two 50 minutes of the service with the men and the young people in charge will be beheld beheld beheld held in th the the- lIDS S church The second two periods will be held in the Baptist chapel Beginning at 8 pm p.m. there will willbe willbe willbe be a program conducted by men Two brief brie talks will be given on what the last 50 years have meant for the churches of Amer Amer- ica lea Music will be furnished by men from front the church During the young peoples people's period there will be two speakers speak sPeak- ers and music will be furnished by the ninth grade chorus with Mrs Maxwell directing and the Baptist youth choir b The Mary Martha s and the Ute Singing Mothers Mothers' will I furnish the music for the opening opening opening open open- ing period at the Baptist church at 10 pm p.m. This will be followed by a period of fellowship at which light refreshments will be served From Fron 1115 to 12 Rev F. F L. L Dawson and Bishop Howard Lance will have haive charge of the program This will be a devotional devotional devotional devo devo- service culminating at the Ute turn of the year with with- the Lords Lord's The The committee in charge of the service issues the following suggestions In this service we are asked to forget our differences if any exist and to be one In a common purpose of invoking Gods God's blessing blessing bless bless- ing lag for the New Year keeping in mind that these are troublous I los lous days through ugh which we are passing In the past half of a century we have had two world wars and we are beginning the Ute second half with what promises to be a third These services are so set up that eve everyone e is free to attend p part rt or parts he may wish to attend and nd nd we trust that all aU will make a special effort to be present at some or all aU of the services |
