Show WITH CATTLE THEFT COWMAN IS ARRESTED FOLLOWING investigation BY SHERIFF CASE MAY BE TRIED IN SAN JUAN COUNTY arthur L murray was arrested by sheriff J B tuesday at floy charged withe the theft of three calves from from george W johnson on the desert between the colorado and green rivers west ot moab he was arraigned before justice C L christensen yesterday and was released on ball in the sura of pending his preliminary hearing at monticello on april 15 the alleged offense was assert edly committed near the grand san juan line and it Is not definite as yet as to which county will assume jurisdiction in the event grand county takes jurisdiction the case will be tried at moab the arrest of murray followed an investigation made by sheriff in the desert country between the rivers the sheriff accompanied by mr johnson roy L holyoak and colonel spent about a week on the range returning sunday it Is alleged that murray drove the calves away from their mothers and placed them in his corral several miles distant where he de horned them it is alleged he was seen driving the calves the animals were taken by the sheriff and party and returned to their mothers who claimed them it is asserted that murray does not deny taking the calves but claims he did it as a favor to the owner and not with any intention to steal them the calves were not branded the cows and calves belong to the joseph johnson estate of which george W johnson 13 manager complaint charging grand larceny was issued by county attorney C S thomson murray has engaged attorney knox patterson to defend him bond satisfactory to the officers was furnished by the defendant yesterday and he was released |
