Show li WILLIAM FIRST postmaster NAMED MOAB william A pierce the first postmaster of moab selected the name moab for this community and submitted it to the postoffice post office department part ment when the local postoffice post office was first established according to his nephew lyman S wood an insurance man of salt lake city who spent friday in town mr wood stated that he had often heard his aged uncle tell of the early days in moab when sufficient people had settled here to justify the establishment of a post office mr pierce was appointed and he was asked to submit a name for the community he took the name from the bible mr wood also states that he remembers his uncle relating that he raised a watermelon in moab valley that weighed pounds he took the melon to the state fair at salt lake city where he was awarded first prize mr pierce died about 15 years ago at |
