Show utah stands twentieth in salaries paid teachers fourth in literacy state school system ranks second among the states in its holding power that Is in the percentage of boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 17 inclusive attending its high schools this Is one of the statements made in a tabulation of standing of the states on five factors relating to school efficiency for the year 1930 as found by the research bulletin of the national educational association just to hand the facts differ where compared with those quoted recently by dr john T of the university of utah from the march issue of the american school board journal in the other factors related to school efficiency the utah standing was reasonably high as found by the national education associations staff of research utah was found to be fourth in literacy twelfth in amount of school attendance twentieth in teachers salaries and twenty eighth in value of school property the research staff made no attempt to weigh the different factors and thus arrive at an absolute ranking ot the states as to efficiency of the system T the average salary paid teachers principals and supervisors in the elementary and secondary public schools of utah in 1930 was found to be 1330 and utah ranks twentieth among the states in this regard new york being considered as highest with an average of 2493 nevada Is fifteenth with 1483 idaho twenty sixth with 1200 wyoming twenty third with 1239 and mississippi forty eighth with the value of public school property per child enrolled was found by dividing the original cost of the property by the total enrollment in schools of the state in utah the resulting alg ure was found to be and ranked this state as twenty eighth new york was again first with nevada was sixth with idaho thirty second with wyoming eleventh with and georgia forty eighth with 72 |
