Show thanksgiving BIRD SHOULD BRING GOOD THIS utah turkey producers should prepare to market the greatest possible number of at thanksgiving for indications point to good prices particularly ticul arly for the early trade said heribert beyers assistant general manager of the northwest turkey growers association upon his return to salt lake recently mr beyers has just returned from a months trip during which he surveyed the prospects and conditions in northwest states including ore ten california nevada idaho utah wyoming and colorado stocks in storage and western hatchery reports indicate that the supply may fall short of demands at thanksgiving and those producers who have early birds to market should receive the highest prices of the year the local turkey expert reports the may report of the united states marketing service shows that present turkey stocks in storage are only about 47 per cent of those on hand a year ago and 54 per cent of the five year average on may 1 of this year there were pounds of turkey meat in storage compared with pounds last may and an average of pounds tor this same tune during the past five years in addition to the great reduction of holdover hold over stocks no great increase Is expected in the new crop this year the big hatcheries on the pacific coast however are still running about to capacity and will likely continue until late in june this indicates that a major portion of the western holiday birds will not be matured for the early trade but may amply supply and late winter demands mr beyers reports that present indications point to some increase of the crop this year on the pacific coast while some of the mountain states expect slight gains and others decreases utah and idaho should at least hold their own ea |
